There are few things better than a warm cup of coffee on a cold Pittsburgh morning, but to Matt and Vanessa Marietti, owners of De Fehr Coffee & Tea, coffee is more than just delicious. “We believe that for any business, and especially a café/coffee company, which has a unique opportunity to bring people together—has a social and moral responsibility to give back to the community that created it,” Matt said, “So we know that whatever we are doing, we need to make sure we’re contributing to the ongoing pursuit of prosperity for all, in this great city.”
Matt and Vanessa have been friends of Angels’ Place for over five years. They first found out about us in the Pittsburgh Gazette and were touched by the mission. Over the years, they have donated their time, resources, and creativity to our families, and most recently, have created a special coffee bag that benefits our angels. For every pound that sells, $1 will go back to Angels’ Place. The coffee blends included are Sons of Vulcan, Eliza Furnace, and Light Up Night.
Out of the three Angels’ Place blends available, Matt especially recommends Eliza Furnace. “Eliza Furnace—I am really proud of our espresso. It’s bold and has great body but is mellow and chocolatey and just bitter enough.—I think it is a very well balanced espresso—a great expression of what great espresso can be, and I love great espresso.
We are extremely grateful to the Mariettis and their friendship with Angels’ Place. We are also excited for them as they recently opened up a brick-and-mortar café in the strip district! According to Matt, “That ‘dream’ goes back as long as I can remember—honestly to early childhood.” Stop by 2002 Smallman Street to get artisan paninis, waffles, quiche, and more café bites to go with your coffee! If you can’t make it in person, you can get the Angels’ Place blends online at defer.coffee any time!
